The Louvre's Egyptian Antiquities

With its 30 rooms and 60,000 artefacts, the Louvre Museum has one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the world after Cairo.

It follows in the footsteps of Jean-François Champollion, who, after deciphering hieroglyphics, was appointed first curator of this department, inaugurated in 1827.
