Discover the Saint Chapelle from the outside, and then you will explore both levels of this Saint Chapelle: the lower chapel and its walls marked with the royal seal and the upper chapel and its gigantic stained-glass windows covered with religious messages.
We will first discover and admire the Sainte Chapelle from outside. We’ll talk about the history of the construction of this palatine chapel built on the Ile de la Cité at the request of Saint Louis. We’ll take a closer look at this unique architecture built during the 13th century and its influences through time.
We will then enter this architectural jewel to explore the two levels of the chapel: the lower chapel and its walls marked with the royal seal; the upper chapel and its gigantic stained glass windows covered with religious messages that we’ll decipher together. It is its immense original stained glass windows that make the Sainte-Chapelle so rich today, because it was deprived of its relics during the French Revolution, and thus lost its main reason for being.
So, are you ready to discover this architectural jewel, a gothic architecture’s masterpiece and a witness to Paris medieval history?
