During the World Fair of 1889, a large-scale competition was launched through the Gazette. The stake was to study the possibility of setting up a 300 meters iron structure over the Champ de Mars. It was Gustave Eiffel’s project which was chosen among other 107 projects. The construction then lasted two years, two months and five days.
Since its opening, the visitors can reach three floors of the Eiffel Tower thanks to elevators built at the time, a real exploit of engineering. Accurately protected, although its installation had to be only temporary, this exceptional architectural inheritance testifies even today of the Gustave Eiffel’s legendary vision.
