With its 30 rooms and 60,000 artefacts, the Louvre Museum has one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the world after Cairo.

It follows in the footsteps of Jean-François Champollion, who, after deciphering hieroglyphics, was appointed first curator of this department, inaugurated in 1827.

The Louvre Museum contains more than 30 rooms retracing more than 3000 years of history. The Department of Egyptian Antiquity at the Louvre presents an immense profusion of works, a real immersion in Egyptian antiquity.

Meet your guide at the foot of the equestrian statue of Louis XIV in front of the Louvre pyramid.

After discovering the Louvre fortress and its foundations, we will go to discover the incredible Egyptian collection of the Louvre created in part thanks to Jean-François Champollion.

Together we will discover a 24 tons sphinx, we will also talk about hieroglyphics, scribes, Egyptian temples, gods… and we will see the mummy of the Louvre!

  • The visit is kids friendly!
  • Due to some rooms closure in the Louvre in 2020, the visit won’t be possible on Tuesdays (Louvre’s closing day) and Fridays (closing day of the Egyptian section).
  • Tickets for the museum are included in the visit, and will be provided by your guide.
  • If, at the end of the visit, you are left unsatisfied, know that you will have the possibility of staying in the museum to take advantage of other works at your own rhythm.
